BUCS Championships

Volunteer Recruitment:  BUCS British Universities & Colleges Sport Championships
10th – 14th March 2010

Volunteers are being sought for the British Universities & Colleges Sport Championships, which is taking place in Sheffield in March 2010. The Championships, the UK’s biggest annual multi-sport event, took place for the first time in the city in March 2008 and was a huge success. The four-day championship, which will act as a culmination of a year-round programme of sport, will feature 26 sports across a combination of Team Finals and Individual Championships and take place in 17 venues across the region.
The aim is to raise the level and profile of student sport from participation through to elite competition, creating a legacy of experience for students - both participants and spectators - and is designed to replicate the feel of a major championship event.  

Below is a list of what sports will be taking place at each venue: 

  • English Institute of Sport - Sheffield (Coleridge Road, Sheffield) – Indoor Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Fencing, Netball, Table Tennis.
  • The Climbing Works (Little London Road, Sheffield) – Climbing
  • Don Valley Stadium (Worksop Road, Sheffield) – Football, Boxing 
  • Abbeydale Sports Club (Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield) – Hockey
  • iceSheffield (Coleridge Road, Sheffield) – Judo
  • Sheffield United Football Club - Football
  • Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club (Ecclesall Road, Sheffield) – Squash, Tennis
  • Ponds Forge ISC (Sheaf Street, Sheffield) – Swimming, Water Polo, Futsal, Karate
  • All Saints School (Norfolk Park Road, Sheffield) – Volleyball
  • Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre (Bochum Parkway, Sheffield) – Korfball
  •  Hillsbrough Leisure Centre – Trampolining
  •  Sheffield United Academy - Archery

We are looking for friendly, outgoing and competent volunteers to fulfil various roles at the event such as Spectator and Access Monitors, Car park Marshals and Ticket Sellers. People are asked to volunteer for as many roles as possible throughout the event.

It is an exciting opportunity to act as a representative for the city of Sheffield.

 

All volunteers will be provided with event clothing, food and drink, and limited travel expenses will be paid.

Volunteers applying are required to be aged 18 or over.

 

The shift times will vary - am, pm and evening shifts are available to work during the event.
