Workforce Development

South Yorkshire Sport are working with Skills Active, the sector skills council for active leisure and learning (www.skillsactive.com), and the four South Yorkshire Community Sports Networks, on workforce development.

Our role is to lead the analysis of and planning for the current and future needs of the sporting workforce in South Yorkshire so that it is appropriately skilled, has access to relevant and beneficial training and is deployed effectively to sustain the anticipated increase in demand for opportunities to play sport.

Our aim is to get “The right people, with the right skills, in the right place”

Sheffield Hallam University have undertaken a Workforce Development Survey in Yorkshire and the Humber, covering areas such as:

  • The size of our region`s workforce (paid/unpaid, part-time/full-time)
  • The profile of the workforce (e.g. age, gender and ethnicity)
  • What they do (e.g. job titles or role)
  • Skills gaps
  • Training needs to fill these gaps

For more information about the survey and the South Yorkshire Workforce Development Plan, please contact Simon Pugh on 0114 2235677
