The Federation of Disability Sports Organisations (FDSO) was formed in 1993 to create and provide sport and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in the Yorkshire and Humberside regions. The FDSO works with its strategic partners, the English Federation of Disability Sport and Sport England to meet their objectives, which will bring greater opportunities for people with disabilities, more sports, more choices and the chance to have a say in how sport is planned and delivered.

Michelle Dent is the South Yorkshire Disability Development Officer for the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations. Based within the team at South Yorkshire Sport, Michelle’s role is to promote and develop sporting opportunities for people with disabilities in South Yorkshire. Michelle’s key work areas include: 

• Workforce development

• Player pathways (Including P2P)

• Youth and club development

• Marketing and communications
  

Collectively Michelle aims to ensure there are more high quality opportunities to participate, with sustainable pathways, utilising networking & information sharing with a partnership approach.

To support Michelle’s work she chairs the South Yorkshire Disability Sport & Physical Activity Steering Group. The steering group is made up of representatives from school sport partnerships (SSP’s), the four local authorities, governing bodies of sport working at county level and disability sports organisations. The group was established to make recommendations to the Delivery Agents of Sport on disability issues. This group has provided guidance, local expertise and support with regards to the development and delivery of the county work programmes.
