Towards and Excellent Service (TaES)

TaES is a tool for the sport and recreation industry, to enable organisations to pursue excellence through continuous improvement.

TaES provides a framework and tools to enable organisations to carry out a self assessment based around eight themes:
1. Leadership
2. Policy and Strategy
3. Community Engagement
4. Partnership Working
5. Use of Resource
6. People Management
7. Standards of Service
8. Performance Management and Learning

The Framework is based on recognised best practice and is tailored to meet the specific needs of the sport and recreation industry. Specific versions of the TAES Framework have been developed for County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and local authority sport and recreation and local authority cultural services.

Organisations can achieve a ‘poor’, ‘fair’, ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ rating for each theme in the framework.

South Yorkshire Sport are undertaking TaES as a County Sports Partnership, and initiated a cyclical self assessment and improvement plan for the partnership in February 2006.

South Yorkshire Sport asked a number of key partners to complete an assessment questionnaire, and bought together a working group to evaluate the results and assess the partnership against the criteria in each of the eight themes. Evidence was gathered to support the partnership’s self assessment prior to validation.

The South Yorkshire Sports Partnership TaES assessment was externally verified in June 2006, and the partnership achieved an overall ‘Fair’ rating.

Most importantly, key areas for improvement were identified by the partnership, and an improvement plan was produced. A small working group and the core staff team have been working to this improvement plan over the past 12 months.

South Yorkshire Sport intend to undertake a further self assessment process for the partnership in April 2007, to enable us to track progress and identify improvement priorities for the next 12 months.
